Tour Programme
Day 1
Depart on Friday evening from Gatwick Airport around 19.30 for Rovaniemi Airport located on the Arctic Circle. Flying into Rovaniemi you will have the first experience of the Midnight Sun. On arrival coach transfers will be provided to your hotel or wilderness lodge.
Day 2
A relaxed breakfast will be provided before our planned activities of the day.
Those staying in the Hotel Scandic Rovaniemi have a very short walk to the Arktikum whilst those accommodated elsewhere will be provided with coach transportation.
The total party will be split into 2 the first group viewing an exhibition which shows the passage of time in Lapland and provides a true insight into the development of the Lappish People.
Meanwhile the second group will participate in a boat tour on the Kemijoki and Ounasjoki rivers and a coach sightseeing tour of Rovaniemi.
Both groups will have lunch at the Arktikum with group 1, then undertaking the sightseeing tour with river and town whilst group 2 visits the beautiful exhibition at the Arktikum.
Tonight we participate in a very special outdoor experience with an outdoor dinner. There will be a traditional Finnish midsummer night festival including the burning of a midsummer pyre, dancing celebrating and simply enjoying midnight summer magic.
Late evening where appropriate transfer will be provided back to your accommodation.
Day 3
Following breakfast we will drive some 90 kilometres to the Ranua Arctic Nature Park where it is possible to see polar and brown bears, lynx, wolverine, elk and reindeer in a natural habitat. Lunch will be taken within the park before returning for dinner. Soon we will depart for Olkkajarvi Lake to commence a one hour transfer by River Boat to enjoy our Midnight Sun activities at Vaattunki.
Following our arrival a full entertainment programme has been organised which will last until 01.00 in the morning. We have All Terrain Vehicles for adults and children to experience the locality and for the more daring a ‘shooting the rapids’ experience.
Safe fun in the water is generally associated with midsummer experiences and we have canoes to use in a controlled environment. Other fun activities include cooking sausages by the campfire with coffee and tea and nature trail walking with a guide in the forest. Snacks are available within a wooden restaurant at the activity point. At 1am transfers are provided back to your accommodation where appropriate.
Day 4
Time to enjoy a relaxed breakfast and to avail of additional optional excursions before checking out from our accommodation by 12.00. Lunch will be provided at a selected venue.
Following lunch we will visit the Arctic Circle village where you will be able to take pictures standing on the actual line of the Arctic Circle . This is also an ideal location for obtaining a selection of Lappish souvenirs to remind you of your visit to a land where the sun never sets (at least during your privileged stay).
We will then depart to the airport for the return flight to the UK .
